Erosion control on forest soils with vegetation, under global change

Soil erosion is a complex phenomenon which combines the deterioration of their surface layers and the movement of the eroded materials that make it up. It is a constant issue for foresters, in particular in the management of new or restored forests. In metropolitan France, we spontaneously think about the restoration of mountain terrains (RTM), implemented from 1860 to stabilise degraded mountain soils, following a decade that was especially rainy and that caused devastating floods. These disasters have been attributed to deforestation and overgrazing, which has bared the soils. The situation was particularly critical in the Mediterranean region, linked with slow vegetation dynamics, recurrence of fire, and sheep or goat farming that have been omnipresent for thousands of years.
